I have spent far too long of my life feeling negative and
sad. I feel that I can now admit this, however for a long time I was in denial
and didn’t fully appreciate how I really felt.
I have written a post about the things in my life that made
me feel this way, which I might share with you one day however at the moment,I
wanted to share with you the things that I live by, ‘rules’ you may say, and
have done for the last few years that have helped me ‘Be Happy’ and love my life alot more than I
ever have.
I have been very lucky, in that I have met my true soul mate
– (I am aware this sounds rather airy fairy and all that, but really!) My soul mate, Peter is the only person I have
had in my life, that I believe has truly loved me, unconditionally. It’s the
kind of love that makes you feel secure and appreciated and I know he loves ME
for ME and I don’t need to be anyone else with him. He is also the only person
in my life that I have loved unconditionally, I respect him and his views (even
though sometimes I argue to high heaven) and more importantly, I respect that
he has taught me how to be happy and look at life through a different lens to
how I was before.
I wanted to write this post to share with you these simple
‘rules’ I guess that I try to follow in my life, some of you may read this and
think that I am looking at the world through rose tinted glasses and I am
living in a glass house, and to those people I say.. Maybe I am, but for me,
that is what makes me happy so I am happy to continue to do so J
I must say to you that I am not a qualified councillor, so
these may not work for everyone. I am also not a hippy, or a freak, who thinks
there are pixies in my garden, or unicorns in the sky. I am a ‘normal’ adult
who had a tough start to life which I can now see that I let this effect me for far too
long.
Accept there have been things in your past
that have affected you and have made you feel sad, no matter how big or small
they were/are. Leave them in the past and look forward to a new life without them.
If you have a ‘Down Day’ or you feel blue,
that is ok. Allow yourself to feel like this for one day, two maximum. Veg out
on the sofa, have a cry, have a gossip with a friend, whatever you need to do.
When your day is up, make a mental reminder to yourself that tomorrow is a fresh
day and you can have a new state of mind.
Accept that you are
not going to like everyone you meet and more importantly, accept that there will
be some people that you meet who are not going to like you, don’t waste your
time worrying about this minority and appreciate the people that do like YOU.
Don’t be afraid to
tell someone you are sorry. If you have upset someone.
Sometimes you may not understand how, but be able to say sorry and move forward.
Sometimes you may not understand how, but be able to say sorry and move forward.
Don’t hold grudges,
they are a waste of your energy, no matter how big or small what someone has
done to you, let it go and move on. They will not be aware that you are holding a grudge
and 9 times out of 10 they would have moved on too.
Don’t allow your
insecurities get in the way of you for filling your dreams.
Know that EVERYONE
has insecurities, even celebrities!
Don’t let other
peoples negative opinions stop you from doing the things that you want to do.
In 10 years time
you do not want to look back and think you did not do something because you
were worried what someone, who incidentally you have not seen for 9 years made
fun of you. People gossip and put you down for these things because 99% it is
their insecurities that stop them too.
Don’t live with any
regrets, apologise for the things that you do wrong and move on. Our mistakes
are what build the people that we are today. Learn from them.
Don’t waste your
time on people who do not give you their time, and don’t waste your time on
people who do not love YOU for who YOU are.
If someone doesn’t
accept you, the chances are they never will, they are not worth your tears. move
on, as there are plenty of people who will love you.
Appreciate the
little things that make you happy and do this daily.
Allow yourself to
look forward to the small things as well as the big things.
Respect your
friends and family, love them for who they are and don’t put them down.
Understand that people’s
opinions will be different and even if you don’t understand it, let it be.
And lastly,
remember that people’s perception of you is their reality.
If you adopt at
least one of these ‘rules’ it will have a positive effect on your life.
I will leave you with a quote (this
one is not too heavy) but I like it.
“Enjoy life. There's plenty of time to be dead.”
― Hans Christian Andersen
